Last year I had the privilege of meeting Brad Trahan, founder of RT Autism Awareness Foundation. We had the group out for an event to help raise money for their cause. We had great weather, and a blast jumping the day away. It was our honor that they invited Westside Skydivers to their annual Gala January 27th, 2012. With nearly 800 guests, it was a huge success. Brad Trahan is an incredibly devoted father, and it is such a joy to see someone so passionate for a cause - as I am about sharing the jumping experience with others. The event included a silent & live auction, as well as some great acts like magician Lance Burton and speed painter Tim Decker, followed by a heartfelt presentation by Brad & his family.

The goals of this foundation is to organize a detailed respite care program, provide alarms in homes for individuals with autism to prevent the vulnerable individual from wandering away, organize an employment services program to assist individuals with autism to be "tax-payers" and not "tax-recipients." RTAAF has educated us and will continue to educate, advocate, and bring AWARENESS about autism - I have learned so much from this fine group of folks.

All of these heartfelt stories and compassion makes us at Westside proud to help be a part of this amazing journey. Looking forward to having a huge group out again this June 2012. If you would like to help by donating, or learn more you can visit their website RT Autism Awareness Foundation Inc. Westside Skydivers loves to work with groups like these to help make a difference, if you would like to discuss possible fundraisers please give us a call! I would like to end this blog with a quote from Jimmy Carter:

Each of us must rededicate ourselves to serving the common good.  We are a community.  Our individual Fates are linked; our futures intertwined; and if we act in that knowledge and in that spirit together, as the Bible says: "We can move mountains." alt

Hello folks,

I'm the web designer for Westside Skydivers. Joe Johnson was my AFF coach back in 2009; the first person I ever jumped out of a plane with. He's a fun guy who has built a fun staff of experienced instructors out in Winsted. These guys are joking and laughing all the time, but don't let that mislead you; safety comes first at Westside. Since I still don't have my A license (you have to go out more than a few times a year to get this), I'm not able to jump when the winds are above 14 kts. Everyone else can, but I'm going solo with a bigger chute that can be harder to get back to the dropzone with when the winds are high. So the last two times I've driven out, I wasn't able to jump. I've known Joe for years now, but that doesn't mean he'll bend the rules. So while it sucks to get excited for a jump and not go, it's at least a bit comforting to know that people are watching out for you.

Thanks to everyone at Westside, especially Miles Hubbard for coaching me on the most fun jump I've had yet (2 backflips\2 frontflips\2 barrel rolls). What a blast!

Westside Skydivers opened the doors with the intent to give our students the MOST complete training around. That is why we use the trademarked program from Skydive Chicago, one of the premier skydiving centers in the country. The program insures the student someone to jump with until they get their 'A' license - so no one gets left behind  and ends up doing too many solo jumps. So in the ongoing effort to grow the sport and promote fun and safe jumps with others, Westside Skydivers has something new to offer for licensed jumpers -we are offering something different each day to encourage group jumps:

alt

Manic Mondays: hybrids, tubes, & other fun/crazy stuff - organizing by Ron Bell

Team Tuesdays & Thursdays: 4 ways & 8 ways - organizing by Miles Hubbard

Wingsuit Wednesdays: Wingsuiters & Tracking dives

Freefly Fridays with Mike Hodgeman

Other load organizers TBA - so grab some friends and come on out - no jump number is too small!

So if you have 25 jumps or 2500 these are for EVERYONE to have FUN & encourage the dynamic of group jumps. I welcome the experienced jumpers to share with the newer jumpers - because remember we all started with ONE jump. No one should be left behind.
